Glass, hammer and nylon string
This installation was designed and created in collaboration with Serah Stringer Grech and Luca Azzopardi as a university exercise in response to the global issues surrounding laws of citizenship. As individuals, the team-work challenged us to push our boundaries both in terms of technique and artistic identity. The interactive installation required its guests to swing a hammer, suspended by nylon thread, back and forth in the direction of a mounted panel of glass. The arrangement did not permit any breakage of the glass, yet imparted a real sense of tension and responsibility on users. Suspense, tension, and fragility were all elements the team held in mind during the design and creation of this piece, which strategically left its viewers waiting for something to go terribly wrong.
